Atlantic Records at SXSW Preview
// Anya Marina
It's that time of year again where music fans descend upon Austin, Texas in their thousands for the
2010 South By South West music conference. Each day this week we'll be giving you a preview of what to expect from Atlantic Records artists performing at SXSW. Today we highlight three of our finest female talents, Estelle, Anya Marina and Marina And The Diamonds.
ESTELLE Grammy Award-winning recording artist Estelle needs no introduction; while the hip-hop songstress gained recognition for "American Boy," her collaboration with Kanye West, she’s paved an impressive career on her own terms in the process. Later this year she’ll be releasing her third full-length All Of Me, but in the meantime you can catch her in Austin to witness the way she unites the genres of R&B, hip-hop and pop into one insanely catchy collection of songs.
Catch Her: 3/18 at Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto); 3/20 at Billboard.com Bungalow (708 E. 6th Street)
ANYA MARINA Even if you haven’t caught San Diego’s Anya Marina live, chances are you have heard her music on programs such as Grey’s Anatomy or Gossip Girl. Additionally Marina was featured on the soundtrack for New Moon, a watershed moment that has helped expose her uniquely personal brand of singer/songwriter fare to new audiences all over the world. If you catch her in Austin, she might even perform her unique version of T.I.’s "Whatever You Like."
Catch her: 3/18 at Max’s Wine Dive (207 San Jacinto); 3/19 at Maggie Mae’s (323 E. 6th Street)
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS Marina And The Diamonds is a Welsh singer-songwriter who has caused a sonic sensation overseas that will inevitably infect Austin, too. Pop gems like "Hollywood" propelled her 2010 album The Family Jewels to debut in the Top 5 in the U.K. and not showing any signs of slowing down, Marina And The Diamonds is releasing her third EP The American Jewels (which features a Passion Pit remix) digitally later this month before embarking on a string of international dates.
Catch Her: 3/18 at Lamberts (401 W. 2nd Street); 3/19 at Levi’s Fader Fort (1101 E. 5th Street); 3/20 at Brush Square Park East Tent (409 E. 5th Street).
