PLIES: Plies Aims For Chart-Topper with "Plenty Money"

'I can honestly say that song is the biggest street song in my career,' Plies told MTV.com about his new street smash "Plenty Money". "The first time I saw that record work, that sh-- scared the f--- out of me," he continued. "It was probably a couple of thousand people there. Sold out. I didn't do that record first, I did that record third or fourth on my set. I came out to 'Me and My Goons.' PLIES: Plies Comments on his 'Goonette' Reality Show

"Ah, man — I feel like it was a great move for me," Plies said about 'Goonette,' which is still in development. Plies says he's pleased that he chose to do a 'Goonette' show, and he should have a deal in place with a cable network within the next few weeks.

"This whole 'Goonette' movement is something I'm really excited about," he said. "Today, it's a bigger movement than the 'Bust it Baby' situation. For me to have the chance to put the trailer together and shop it around, I think it's the best move I made in my career."

Taking the lead role is a woman named Fire, a stripper and mother of two. "I heard about (the strip club) she worked at first, before I went there and seen it myself. I heard about how she was hustling. She was always the chick that, no matter what spot we was in, what (regular night) club we was in, she always ended up being the chick that turned the spot out. She always was with her clique. They always danced and partied. I used to see her dance all the time, but I didn't know that's what she did as far as her profession. I got whiff of it. For me, that was the icing on the cake."

PLIES: Plies Kicks Off Super Bowl Festivities In Florida

As Tampa Bay is set to host Super Bowl XLIII next month, Florida native Plies has announced plans to launch a week-long celebration leading up to the game. “Plies Week 2009” will kick off in Tampa on Monday, January 26 with the “Stripper Olympics” and will conclude on Saturday, January 31 with the “I Got Plenty Money” Car and Bike Show, featuring a performance by Plies himself. Other highlights include the Power of Visions Fundraiser/Yacht Party on Tuesday and the “Welcome to My City” Industry Party at Club Underground hosted by Plies and his “Bust It Baby” calendar models. Portions of the proceeds will go to Plies and his brother Big Gates’ non-profit organization Power Of Visions, which was created last year to help the educational needs of impoverished youth and those effected by the prison system.

When asked why fans should go pick up the album, Plies responded "I know a lot of times people tell you, especially from artists that this is their best work by far. I had an opportunity to actually listen to my album a couple of days ago and it’s one of those CD’s where I feel my first two projects were considered to be certified street classics, but I think this album is just a classic, period." In Plies latest interview with SOHH.com, the rapper speaks on why he chooses straightforward story telling over complex lyrics. The emcee is unapologetic about his lack of lyricism because he thinks that the truth can get lost in metaphors and double entendres and he'd rather keep it real. For Plies, being the realest rapper means being honest about his position in the industry and acknowledging his shortcomings.

On his new album, Plies truthfully reveals the reality of his home life. In a song called "Family Straight" the rapper asks God for the opportunity to get his family in order before he passes away. Plies talks about his grandmother's kidney failure, his brother's prison sentence and his aunt's battle with AIDS, among other things. Plies has announced details of his very own non-profit organization, Big Gates and Plies Power Of Visions Foundation, Inc., as well as a scholarship program, The “Somebody Loves You” Scholarship Fund. This all comes as the Ft. Myers, Florida-bred rapper continues to ride the wave of success proven by his sophomore release, “DEFINITION OF REAL,” which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, selling 215,000 copies in its first week. In fact, the album’s first week sales gave Plies the highest selling first-week numbers in the history of Miami-based Slip-N-Slide Records.

Keeping in the tradition of Plies’ philanthropy, Big Gates and Plies Power Of Visions will provide funding for legal representation and aid to needy individuals, specifically those who are incarcerated, with the goal of promoting a more functional, productive, and just community. The organization will also provide educational forums, classes, workshops, trainings, opportunities, and other charitable activities aimed at individuals in the community, in particular focusing on rehabilitation.

In addition, Big Gates and Plies Power Of Visions will focus on promoting activities for youth and minorities, including education, mentorship, cultural experiences, and preventative measures aimed at combating incarceration in the Tampa and Ft. Myers, Florida areas.

The organization’s first effort will be the “Somebody Loves You” Scholarship Fund 2008 (named after the song “Somebody (Loves You) “from his current album), which is designed specifically for students attending an accredited college or university, who have a parent(s) that is presently incarcerated and who is financially disadvantaged. The scholarship is open to students who are currently enrolled or who will be entering school this fall. Two scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female in the amount of $5000 each.

Plies makes an impressive debut this week with the release of his sophomore album. DEFINITION OF REAL lands at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling more than 200,000 copies in its first week, doubling first week sales of his first album, THE REAL TESTAMENT.

'Bust It Baby Part 2,' the first single from DEFINITON OF REAL, has already proven to be another massive hip-hop hit for Plies. Big Gates/Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic recording artist Plies makes an impressive debut this week with the release of his sophomore album. "DEFINITION OF REAL" lands at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling more than 200,000 copies in its first week, doubling first week sales of his first album, "THE REAL TESTAMENT."

"Bust It Baby Part 2," the first single from "DEFINITON OF REAL," has already proven to be another massive hip-hop hit for Plies. The track is currently #1 at Urban mainstream outlets nationwide this week. What's more, "Bust It Baby Part 2" is turning out to be a gigantic summer sensation, coming in this week at #5 on Billboard's "Hot 100 Airplay" ranking, as well as #12 on the overall "Hot 100."

"Bust It Baby Part 2" is also continuing Plies' incredible run of blockbuster ringtones. The single is currently #3 on Nielsen Ringscan's "Top 200 Mastertones" ranking.

Plies has unleashed two new videos for the album's "I'm Da Man (Feat. Trey Songz)" and "Worth Goin FED For," both of which are currently streaming at the rapper's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/plies.
