You step out of a pub in Paris to find Kele and Russell of Bloc Party giving an acoustic performance of 'This Modern Love' on the sidewalk. A small, very quiet crowd has formed around the band. A cameraman and an audio engineer capture the whole thing. The performance and recording were done as the latest Take Away Show for La Blogotheque, a Paris-based video blog of impromptu sessions from musicians all over the world. Bloc Party will be playing an Instore at the Oxford Circus branch of HMV (London) on Monday, October 27th to celebrate the physical release of INTIMACY.

The band will play a short set from 6 PM BST, and stick around for a signing session.

Earlier this week Bloc Party surprised music fans around the globe by announcing the arrival of their third album, Intimacy, just three days before its release. Lead singer Kele joined RollingStone.com on the phone to explain how and why the band decided to spring their new album so unexpectedly.

“There were lot of clandestine meetings in east London pubs,” laughs frontman Kele Okereke on the phone from England. “We referred to it as Plan ‘X.’ It was a bit of a giggle. I don’t think more than 10 people knew about the idea until the last few days. It was totally hush-hush."

A little bit of news for you ahead of the US tour, our first tour in some eight months. To have been away from the winding road of touring so long is a pretty big deal for us, considering we've spent most of the last four years playing our skewed R'n'B meltdown with barely so much as a pause for a cup of tea between shows. But the time has come to stretch the gig legs and break out the spandex once more.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to join the boys during the next month or so of touring. The reason for this is that my wife is expecting our first baby in a few weeks and after some long hard thinking we all decided, band included, that it was a bit silly for me to be flying round the world at such a critical time in the pregnancy. No one wants me to wind up in the wrong continent should there be any complications or should the little one decide to put in an early appearance. So while the other chaps are jetting around the Pacific Rim I will be buying the groceries, attending ante-natal classes and generally preparing myself for the cloud of unknown that is becoming a Dad.

In my stead we've been schooling a friend of ours, Daniel Lindegren (aka Tommy Sparks), in the ways of the Bloc. For the next few weeks Daniel will be doing his best to cover my portfolio of bass, keys, buttons, knobs and things that go 'clonk'. He is more than proficient at many of these things so I can't see it marring anyone's enjoyment of the Bloc Party experience while I'm away. All being well, I will return to reclaim my mantle around the end of August, possibly bringing with me some profound wisdom as a new father, if not a complete lack of sleep.

On February 6th, Bloc Party's highly anticipated sophomore album, A WEEKEND IN THE CITY, will hit stores nationwide. On March 11th, Bloc Party will be returning to the US to start their very first American tour supporting A WEEKEND IN THE CITY, playing all new songs and generally doing what Bloc Party does best - delivering a wildly energetic live show to rapturous response from audiences across the country. The tour will feature support by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes, Final Fantasy, Sebastian Grangier, The Like and Smoosh on various dates. BLOC PARTY: Bloc Party Return To North America For Summer Dates

Nothing beats the sweet boredom of summer better than a few good rock shows. Lucky for us, Bloc Party are ready and willing to do their part, returning to America for another string of tour dates in late July/August after two June shows at Toronto's Olympic Island Festival and Vice's Intonation Festival in Chicago. Mew will open all of the upcoming July/August shows, with Secret Machines and Broken Social Scene supporting on select dates.

After making a triumphant return to the American stage with an incendiary set at Coachella, Bloc Party have been holed up in a recording studio with electronic artist/U2 producer Jacknife Lee at the production helm, hammering out the twenty or so songs that have been written for the follow-up to 2005's Silent Alarm. They will be playing a plethora of new songs at these upcoming shows, as well as lots of old favorites, so do yourself a favor and get a ticket early because these shows WILL sell out!!
