WITH FIRST SINGLE "LITTLE BIT OF RED";
AS AWARD-WINNING "is it o.k." ARRIVES SEPTEMBER
15th
"Little Bit Of Red" - the first single from "is it o.k." - is shaping up as Serena Ryder's U.S. breakthrough. The track is resonating with listeners and programmers at Triple A radio outlets nationwide, where it rocketed into the Top 10 this week. The chart entry marks Ryder as one of only three female artists (Adele, Duffy) to chart Top 10 at the Triple A radio format in the past year.
Set for U.S. release on September 15th, Ryder's full-length Atlantic Records debut, "is it o.k.," has received gold certification from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) in her native Canada, where it has earned reams of critical acclaim as well as the "Adult Alternative Album of the Year" at the 2009 Juno Awards. The album was recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer John Alagia (Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer).
Having gained a significant U.S. following via two recent Atlantic Records releases, "SWEEPING THE ASHES" and "TOLD YOU IN A WHISPERED SONG," the EPs served as an ideal introduction to Ryder's powerful range - which veers from tough to tender, often in a single verse - and distinctive, passionate songwriting. "(She) attacks a lyric like a young Melissa Etheridge," declared O, The Oprah Magazine, while Performing Songwriter praised Serena as "a voice...that grabs you by the lapels and refuses to let your attention wander."
Ryder has also proven herself to be a charismatic, show-stopping performer. Recently featured on Bruce Springsteen's official website as part of the "Hangin' Out On E Street" series, she delivered a stunning live rendition of the classic Springsteen track "Racing In The Street." The track quickly received over 60,000 views and bountiful praise. With countless tours in her native Canada, as well as the U.S., France and Australia, she has shared stages with such artists as Eric Hutchinson, Paolo Nutini, Marc Broussard, Stephen Kellogg, and Xavier Rudd, not to mention performances at such festivals as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Denver's Mile High Music Festival. Ryder will begin a series of festival dates kicking off June 6th in Atlanta, GA at Virginia Highland Summerfest and continuing through July 31st in Pittsburgh, PA.
