'Yes!' - Jason Mraz Shares Exclusive Details About His New Album

YES! is the latest album by Atlantic Records artist Jason Mraz. The album features a great mix of songs that speak to Jason’s positive personality and lifestyle. Including a number of songs written with longtime collaborators Raining Jane, listening to YES! is like discovering an uplifting and inspiring songbook on a cool summer day. Like the songs, the stories behind the making of each track are equally as amazing. Check out this discussion with Jason about the songs on the album. Read some of the highlights from the interview below and visit Spotify to listen to the full commentary!

"Rise"

Rise is the intro to YES!...Raining Jane and I wanted an instrumental or an a capella, something that didn’t say too much but spoke volumes in emotion...

"Love Someone"

“Love Someone” is about the basic appreciation for life…For me the best part about “Love Someone” is the fact it was written on a dusty road in Virginia with Raining Jane, some mobile instruments, some kids toys and three goats...

"Hello, You Beautiful Thing"

"Hello, You Beautiful Thing" was born in my backyard. I was standing in the edge of the yard looking out at the trees, and I could just see a great depth–and the lyrics just poured right into my skull...

"Long Drive"

I knew I wanted to write a song that honored those back roads that I used to take when I just needed a little more time away from home...

"Everywhere"

"Everywhere" is the song that almost got away. We were in a writing session, and I was reviewing old recordings that I had made...Suddenly, “Everywhere” starts playing to me on my phone...We wrote it, but no one could remember when or why or what it was about. It was this magical sort of ghost song, and we decided to follow through on it...

"Quiet"

...“Quiet” might be the most challenging song I’ve ever performed...It was written outside of my Raining Jane writing circle, and the room that I was writing in had all these pictures of old Santa Monica from a hundred years ago...This song...I dedicate it to a very special person in my life who makes it okay that the world is always changing...and always growing...

"Out Of My Hands"

It’s about a friend that walks away from your life and you’re not sure why...

"3 Things"

People are always asking me, ‘Jason, how do you stay so positive?’ “3 Things” is a song about how to do just that...

"You Can Rely On Me"

As a writer, I’ve always liked to look at paradoxes or conflicting sides...So, “Rely On Me” is a little bit of that as well. Sometimes we’re hot; sometimes we’re cold...But no matter what we are, just know that you can rely on me...
