The 2014 film Neighbors depicts the woes of a couple with a newborn who move into a neighborhood overrun by a group of guys living in their fraternity house next door. The storyline is enough to bring people out for a night of cinematic humor and entertainment, but the creators of this movie take things one step further by compiling a soundtrack that makes the picture even more appealing.
The soundtrack features a mix of Atlantic Records artists in addition to other artists associated with the Warner Music Group family. The tracklisting includes Icona Pop’s “I Love It”, “Freaking Out” by Flo Rida, and “Get Ur Freak On” by Missy Elliott. The album is a cool mix of amazing singles that make us all want to throw our hands in the air and wave them like we just don’t care.
According to a recent article in the Huffington Post, Manish Raval, the film’s music supervisor, wanted to produce the essence of a “party album” to compliment the film’s personality. The tracks on the album actually appear in the scenes from the movie, interwoven between hilarious scenes and dialogue. For example, “Freaking Out” plays during a dance off between the two main characters (portrayed by Seth Rogen and Zac Efron). Other tracks are sprinkled throughout the film to underscore awesome twists and turns in the plotline.
“Everyone who I played it for immediately had that same reaction. As soon as the drums kick in and there's a backbeat behind Missy, everyone is like, ‘Oh, that's f***ing awesome.’” - Manish Raval, Music Supervisor for Neighbors
