NEEDTOBREATHE Aims For The Heart

After 14 years as a band, personal conflicts combined with a grueling tour schedule left NEEDTOBREATHE ready to call it quits in 2011. The boys from Seneca, South Carolina found themselves reeling from a massive year following the release of the Billboard Rock and Christian chart topping album The Reckoning and touring with superstar Taylor Swift. The pressure of their growing success–the need to do more–was beginning to pull the band apart at the seams. Conflicts in the studio over the direction of the band culminated in scuffles–one of which resulted in a visit to the ER.

“Cause if you never leave home, never let go, you’ll never make it in the great unknown.” - 'Keep Your Eyes Open'

After a tumultuous season of wandering the wasteland of lost identity, interpersonal conflicts and misguided choices–documented in the band's documentary Prove the Poets Wrong–bandmates Bear, Bo, Seth, and Joe reconciled with one another. Getting back to the basics of who they are, what they believe, and what they had originally set out to do as a band, NEEDTOBREATHE reconvened to record their appropriately titled upcoming album Rivers in the Wasteland back in their home state of South Carolina.

“We’re proud to say that we are getting back to what brought us together in the first place, and the new record is a celebration of that.”

River in the Wasteland is a beautifully simple, back to basics album whose strength lies in the band’s skillful songwriting and honest sound. So what are people saying about the latest from NEEDTOBREATHE?

Check out the just released official video for "The Heart" which was directed by Gus Black and filmed in Santa Clarita, CA.
