The fourth annual Governors Ball in New York City took place this past weekend on Randall’s Island. Unlike last year the weekend was warm and sunny without an ounce of mud (thank god)! Atlantic Records was in full force at the festival yet again with incredible performances by Janelle Monáe, Skrillex, Fitz & the Tantrums, and Meg Myers!
On Friday afternoon, Janelle took the Governors Ball main stage to a wild and excited crowd. After being wheeled on stage in a straight jacket, fans knew they were in for a unique treat and Janelle certainly delivered. Her energetic set was full of dancing, partying and an array of her hits; from “Tightrope” to “Dance Apocalyptic” she gave it her all and the crowd ate it up!
As the crowds filed into the festival on Saturday it seemed as though many were heading to the Big Apple stage to catch the indie pop soul rockers, Fitz and the Tantrums! The packed crowd was dancing along to each song, including their current hits “The Walker”, “Out of My League” and a unique take of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).”
As Saturday came to a close festivalgoers ran to the Honda Stage to catch Skrillex’s headlining set. The electronic music giant brought forth masses of fans that just wanted to dance the night away to Skrillex’s incredible set which he DJ-ed from a specially designed spaceship as a part of his Mothership Tour (going on this summer). Skrillex played a selection of his own songs, including an incredible mash up of “Ragga Bomb” and “Kyoto”, as well of some incredible remixes of songs by other DJs.
Dedicated fans showed up bright and early, despite Skrillex’s late set the night before, to catch one of our newest acts, the supremely talented Meg Myers! Meg brought a rawness to her performance which had fans cheering and singing along to her songs especially her newest single, “Desire.”
