The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual celebration of some of the greatest artists and recordings in the tradition of Black music in American entertainment. Check out some of the artists who will be featured nominees this year! Also be sure to tune into the awards show and check out these artists live and in action!

Janelle Monáe

Nominations

Best R&B/Soul Female Artist

Album of the Year (The Electric Lady)

Best Dance Performance (The Electric Lady)

Best Collaboration (“Primetime” feat. Miguel)

Janelle Monáe is the premier music artist of this generation. Her electric style, trendsetting fashion and musical excellence help set the standard for artistic expression across genres. She leads our pack with a whopping four nominations! The success of her latest studio album The Electric Lady has catapulted Monáe to new heights. Check out the official video for the hit single “Primetime” featuring Miguel, which is up for the Best Collaboration award.

Charli XCX

Nominations

Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year (“Fancy” - Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX)

Charli XCX made a huge splash this year onto the hip hop and R&B scene as the featured artist on the hit summer anthem “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea, which Charli co-wrote. She was already riding high from the mega success of Icono Pop’s “I Love It”, which she also penned. Now Charli is forging straight ahead with music of her own. Her latest single “Boom Clap” is heating up the charts and making this singer a household name in the process. Her forthcoming studio album Sucker has already generated much buzz and anticipation!

Sevyn Streeter

Nominations

Best New Artist

Sevyn Streeter was already a well-known singer-songwriter, having crafted hits for the likes of Kelly Rowland, Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, and many other notable artists. However, over the past year, she has surfaced as a major R&B superstar as well. The success of her hit single “It Won’t Stop”, a romantic duet featuring Chris Brown, has made this emerging songstress a vocal force to be reckoned with on the charts. Her latest EP Call Me Crazy, But… explores love and relationships from a woman’s perspective in that classic, retrospective, soulful kind of way. Check it out today on iTunes

Tank

Nominations

Best R&B/Soul Male Artist

Tank is easily a crowd favorite in the realm of male R&B singers. He has crooned his way into our hearts with his sexy, sultry take on soul music for several years and several albums. His latest album Stronger was recently released to much fanfare. Check out the official video for the hit single “You’re My Star”!

Trey Songz

Nominations

Best R&B/Soul Male Artist

Trey Songz exploded onto the music scene in 2005 with a new style of “street-centric” R&B music that embraced a vintage soul sensibility. Since that time Trey has continued to give the fans his signature blend of hip hop infused balladeering and sensual lyricism. There is no better example of this style than his latest album offering Trigga, which features guest appearances by some of urban music’s best. Check out the official video for the hit single “Foreign” from the album.
