Atlantic recording artist Yolanda Adams was among the winners at last weekend's NAACP Image Awards ceremonies in Los Angeles. The acclaimed singer received the 'Outstanding Gospel Artist - Traditional or Contemporary' trophy for her 2005 album, DAY BY DAY, marking the sixth time she has been honored with an Image Award. The 37th NAACP Image Awards, presented to those who strive for the portrayal of positive images and meaningful opportunities for African-Americans in motion pictures, television, literature and recording, will air Friday, March 3rd at 8pm EST on FOX (check local listings).
The NAACP Image Award follows Adams's recent success at the 2006 Grammy Awards. The evening saw the First Lady of Gospel taking home two Grammy trophies for the DAY BY DAY track, 'Be Blessed' - 'Best Gospel Performance' and 'Best Gospel Song.'
DAY BY DAY has proven to be one of Adams's most popular collections to date. Along with last year's smash 'Be Blessed,' the album has yielded the multi-format hit singles, 'Someone Watching Over You' and 'Victory' (currently a top ten favorite at Gospel radio). Her new single, 'This Too Shall Pass,' has just arrived at both Gospel and Urban AC outlets nationwide.
Featuring production by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Kirk Franklin, Shep Crawford, 'Big' Jim Wright, and Gordon Chambers & Barry Eastmond, DAY BY DAY marks Adams?s first new album in more than four years. Featuring guest appearances by friends Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, and Franklin, the collection serves as a showcase for Adams?s joyous vocals and inspirational message.
Adams has also scheduled a pair of upcoming concert dates, one on each coast. On April 8th, she will perform two shows at New York City's BB King Blues Club and Grill, followed by an April 14th appearance at Heaven Bound Ministries in Stockton, California.
